article imageOp-Ed: Should Romney call Obama's bluff?

By Stan Crouch     Aug 8, 2012 in Politics
Many questions linger in the minds of Americans about Barack Obama's past and that includes all of the documentation that has disappeared or been legally sealed to avoid scrutiny.
This naturally leads many to be skeptical of the "why" behind the hiding of his key documents. The Cold Case Posse, for example, has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to authenticate, or not, the alleged birth certificate posited by the Obama administration to settle the birth question (where he was born and natural citizen status). The findings for that effort are due out in the September/October time-frame.
In addition to the question of the birth certificate there are other disputed Obama documents including his draft, social security and many of his academic records which have been sealed at considerable expense by Obama. Why would he do that, and why won't he release all of his original documents? This question has puzzled many people for the duration of his first term in the Oval Office as well as prior to his election.
One journalist uniquely qualified to speculate on the why is a classmate of Obama's (or as he was known then, Barry Soetoro) of the Columbia class of '83 named Wayne Root.
Here is Wayne's considered assessment of sealed Columbia documents (quoted with the permission of the author):
If you could unseal Obama’s Columbia University records I believe you’d find that:
A) He rarely ever attended class.
B) His grades were not those typical of what we understand it takes to get into Harvard Law School.
C) He attended Columbia as a foreign exchange student.
D) He paid little for either undergraduate college or Harvard Law School because of foreign aid and scholarships given to a poor foreign students like this kid Barry Soetoro from Indonesia.
If you think I’m “fishing” then prove me wrong. Open up your records Mr. President. What are you afraid of?
Mr. Wayne further asserts in his The Obama Scandal Is at Columbia article that Romney should do the following:
Call Obama’s bluff. Romney should call a press conference and issue a challenge in front of the nation. He should agree to release more of his tax returns, only if Obama unseals his college records. Simple and straight-forward. Mitt should ask “What could possibly be so embarrassing in your college records from 29 years ago that you are afraid to let America’s voters see
This challenge proposed by Root is essentially what Donald Trump advised Romney to do in the face of an obvious political ploy to keep Romney busy defending his tax records while Obama avoids releasing his own highly questionable past documentation. This ploy effectively avoids discussing the real issues facing the nation.
Obama promised that he would be a transparent president and yet we know very little about his background and that should concern both ardent Obama supporters who want to believe in him as well as the rest of us who wonder why the complicated cover-up and why it isn't being investigated to the satisfaction of all Americans by the press media at large.
Calling Obama's bluff sounds like a reasonable way to bring about some closure. Then maybe the candidates can get back to discussing serious issues like the failing economy and what each candidate plans to do to correct it as well as delineating a real foreign policy to name just two critical issues.
