article imageOceanside Overdrive car show wows spectators in Parksville, BC Special

By C. Schroeder     Aug 5, 2012 in Travel
There were plenty of competition clutches with four on the floor this weekend in Parksville, BC as the Oceanside Overdrive car show roared into town. The turnout for this Vancouver Island show & shine spectacular would have made even the Beach Boys proud.
With vehicles in attendance from all over the Pacific Northwest, the setting could not have been any better for this annual event. Taking place in Parksville’s oceanfront Community Park, the cloudless sky and ocean breezes made for the perfect opportunity to stroll through row after row of classic cars. From hot rod Fords to vintage Volkswagen buses, just about every automobile manufacturer was well represented. Camaros to Corvettes, GTOs to Jeeps, there were vehicles of every make and model to appreciate. Shiny paint jobs, flame covered hoods, mag wheels glistening in the sun; the sights present were enough to make a gearhead’s heart warm with glee.
It is no wonder that the Oceanside Overdrive car show is such a hit every year. Nestled against Parksville Bay, the community park is the quintessential gathering place for car lovers from all over Vancouver Island. This annual car show draws hot rod owners from British Columbia’s mainland as well as the Prairie Provinces. Car buffs have been known to make the trek up from California, Oregon, and Washington State too. With bikini-clad bodies bathing in the sun, children’s kites flying overhead, and the Parksville Sand Castle competition in full swing, adding hundreds of hot rods to the mix makes for a memorable BC Day long weekend indeed. For those that have never made it to the sandy shores of Vancouver Island’s Parksville Qualicum area, choosing the August long weekend is a wise choice that will not be regretted. Sun, sand, surf, and steel; who could ask for anything more of a summer in paradise?
