article imageUSA thrashes Nigeria 156-73 at the Olympics

By Edwin Jusino     Aug 2, 2012 in Sports
London - Led by Carmelo Anthony, Russell Westbrook, and Kobe Bryant, the Dream Team broke Team USA all time Olympic record of 133 points, by thrashing the Nigerian squad 156-73.
Carmelo Anthony also broke a USA Team record by contributing 37 points to the route.
For Nigeria, the top three scorers were Diogui (27), Oguchi (11), and Ugbojae (8).
The American squad seemed to play relaxed against a team clearly inferior to the World and Olympic champions. Nigeria barely qualified as third place in last month’s Olympic qualifier by defeating the Dominican Republic.
On the other matches for today, Spain, another favorite to win gold in London 2012 men’s basketball tournament, was almost surprised by the local Great Britain team, after finishing 79-78.
Russia defeated Brazil 75-74, Argentina routed Tunisia 92-69, and finally Australia defeated China 81-61.
Tomorrow, Men’s Olympic Basketball continues when Angola faces Croatia (9:00), Russia faces Australia (11:15), Brazil faces Canada (14:30), Turkey faces China (16:45) and finally eternal rivals France face off against host Great Britain.
