The FIFA World Cup, won by the Spanish National Team in South Africa in 2010, arrived in Puerto Rico last night and was put on display this morning at the Puerto Rico Tourism Company headquarters in Old San Juan.
The arrival of the World Cup is one of a series of events that lead up to the august 15 international friendly between Puerto Rico and Spain.
The producer of the event, Maritza Casiano, CEO of Casiano Productions, a company that has produced world class music events in the past, said “We’re going to give our best. Not just the National Team, but all puertoricans. We will show FIFA that Puerto Rico is ready to host world class events; ready for the economic boom that did not exist in Puerto Rico. Without a doubt, “La Roja”, is opening the door for us to world class football”. Casiano spoke today at the press conference held at the Tourism Company headquarters for the unveiling of the World Cup.
The Cup will be displayed in several outlets around the island before heading to Bayamón, Puerto Rico, where the renovated Juan Ramón Loubriel stadium is located, for the august 15 friendly.
The Spanish National team will be arriving on the island next Monday 13th of August, and will be participating in an official welcome by the government of the U.S. Territory. It expected that most of the team that won the Euro Cup will be called for this friendly.
