London's Metropolitan Police have reported that the bus had hit and killed a bicyclist near the Olympic Park in east London. This required authorities to halt bus transportation in and out of the park.
Ambulance units, including a helicopter-borne unit, tried to save the man, 28, but he died about 30 minutes after the accident, which occurred at 7:45 pm (local time).
Olympic organizers, Locog, in a statement, "We can confirm that a cyclist tragically died as a result of a collision with a bus carrying media from the Olympic Park this evening."
"The police are investigating and our thoughts are with the cyclist's family."
The Olympics shuttle buses have been ferrying thousands of journalists between Olympic Park and hotels in central London.
No one on the bus was reported as injured and police have launched an investigation into the accident.
