Police say a man was arrested Monday after he washed his genitals in a NW Portland park water fountain. Jamie Todd Hensler, 40, took off his clothes and began washing his genitals in the water fountain in Couch Park on Northwest Glisan Street.
According to Sgt. Pete Simpson, a police bureau spokesman, witnesses said the incident happened at about 8:14 a.m. after Hensler spoke to some kids and tossed a water balloon at them.
He undressed and began washing his genitals in the fountain while the children stood about 10 feet away, Simpson said. KGW.com reports that a witness Michale Koopman, said: “He was bathing in the drinking fountain and had his pants down around his ankles and he was totally exposing himself. Once I saw that I asked the teacher to bring the kids inside."
According to The Oregonian, police arrested Hensler and booked him into the Multnomah County Jail on misuse of a drinking fountain, indecent exposure and disorderly conduct. He was also issued a park exclusion.
He was due to appear in court on Wednesday but did not show up. A KGW.com reporter found him at the same park and questioned him. Hensler explained to the reporter that he was just trying to take a quick bath. He said: "I was arrested because I was taking a bath in and washing up in the fountain because no one cares about me. They took my housing, took away my medical and social security.”
The Oregonian reports that Hensler is also due in Multnomah County Circuit Court on August 3 in connection to a separate incident on June 23. He is accused of assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and recklessly endangering another person.
