article imageOp-Ed: Is it a pig, a dog or something more sinister?

New York - A strange creature was discovered washed up on New York beach. Bloggers are speculating what this creature might be. Some think it is a dog or pig, others think it is something more sinister.
The Telegraph reports, that a totally bizarre creature has been washed up on the shore of New York's, East River. There are plenty of bloggers, social networking site users and Internet forum's that are buzzing with the news. People want to know what this strange creature is and they are not prepared to believe that it is simply a pig.
The New York Parks Department are quick to dismiss this animal as a pig that was roasted and thrown away. I guess they think that people are naive. However, in this x-files type news report people are ready to give their opinion. There are many ideas of what this mysterious beast could be. Some people think it is a giant rodent or a dog that has swelled in the water.
The connotations of this animal being a giant rodent, are huge. Giant rodent's could be seriously harmful and dangerous. Rodent's are vermin, giant rodent's are twice the threat, plus they could bite. Whatever this animal is, its bite could be huge.
When an amateur photographer came across the monster, whilst walking under the Brooklyn Bridge in Manhattan on Sunday, she immediately took out her camera. Eager to capture images of the beast, so that she could show it to her friends and family, she returned later on with a better camera. Denise Ginley said, "We were horrified by it and we took some camera phone pictures and then finally we decided to come back with my camera and I got up the courage to climb over the fence and get closer to it."
Although it may look like a bloated pig on first glance, if you take a closer look, you'll see it has five fingers. Since when did a pig, ever have five fingers? Therefore, the New York Parks Department must have eaten a strange kind of pig. I wonder if it tasted like a pig, or perhaps it tasted like some creature that has never been eaten before?
This news has left a lot of questions unanswered. Many Internet users are having their say about what the creature could be and what it might be used for. As comments pour in online, in forums and social networking sites, people are suggesting it could be an aardvark, a raccoon or something related to a possum. One, online user, suggested that it could be from a government-run animal disease center. The poster said that she doesn't think it coincidence that this strange animal should wash up on shore around Plum Island, near where the government has their Center for Animal Diseases.
People are wondering if these things are actually government experiments they don't want the public to know about. One blogger wrote on New York magazine's Daily Intel Blog that people are supposed to think the New East River Monster is simply a pig. The blogger compares the animal to something akin to the X-Files.
The New York Parks Department will not move from its first identification of the animal.
"It was a pig left over from a cookout," a spokesperson told the Animal NY website. "We disposed of it."
When he was quizzed further about it, the spokesman added: "It was a roasted pig we threw it out. We didn't count its toes, we just threw it out."
However, people on the Internet, do not believe this theory. They think that it is some government tested species.
The Sun reports, that the creature has five human-like fingers at the end of its limbs, a mutilated face and hairless flesh. Although authorities claim it is a pig they disposed of, the creatures hands look nothing like pig hooves. Some theorists think it might be related to the mystery 'Montauk Monster' that astounded New Yorkers when it washed up at Ditch Plains Beach in the exclusive Hamptons, in July 2008.
Ms Ginley who discovered and photographed the beast thinks that it could be some sort of raccoon or giant rodent. There is a missing top jaw and a lack of canine teeth on the bottom jaw.
Dr. Paul Curtis, wildlife specialist, believes it could be a small dog that died and swelled in the sea.
Wildlife specialist Dr. Paul Curtis suggests it could be a small dog that died and swelled in the murky river. Fox News reports, bloggers are inviting comments from people. Social networking websites are busy with speculation about what this strange creature could be. There are mixed views and whilst some people feel fear and trepidation, others feel anger at the government for trying to cover something up. The truth is, nobody knows yet. It could turn out to be a thrown out, roasted pig. On the other-hand, it could be something more sinister
