Teddington - If there are two places where most people love to sing, they are in the shower and in their cars. And now a European car rental company is searching for “the best in-car karaoke singer.”
Europcar is calling on people to post video of their best performance singing in their vehicles in the first Caraoke Competition.
“You only need to sit in traffic and look at the driver in the car next to you or behind you to realize in-car singing is a great stress reliever,” says Europcar UK managing director Ken McCall. “So we thought we’d mount our own hunt for the best in-car karaoke singer.”
If you aren’t sure if you can channel your inner rock star, just think that your performance could help you drive away with a Fiat 500. In addition to the grand prize, participants can win weekly prizes ranging from Samsung Galaxy Tablets and Amazon e-vouchers to Eastern Airways flights and weekend spa getaways. The full list of prizes is available at Europcar’s Facebook page.
Caraoke plays on the urge to sing out loud in our cars, whether we are cruising down the road or stuck in traffic gridlock. The competition invites people to show their talent by singing along with a tune from a list of classics such as Wild Thing by the Troggs or Labelle’s Lady Marmalade.
To launch the contest, Europcar polled its own staff as to what habits of singing with motoring. Nearly nine in 10 staffers admitted to singing in their cars and the favourite tune to belt out was Ace of Spades, by Motorhead. Other faves were Dancing in the Moonlight (Toploader) and The Final Countdown (Europe).
Full details and rules are available at the company’s Facebook page. Visitors to the page can also vote for their favorite Caraoke star.
