Have a watermelon and no knife? While it's not likely that you'll have 500 rubber bands in your pockets either, these two chaps demonstrate on video a novel method of 'squashing' the beast.
Meet Gav and Dan, AKA the
Slow Mo Guys. Gav and Dan are two English chaps who either cannot get dates or are working on the scientific version of
Jackass. Either way, they're hilarious and obviously highly suggestible.
After watching "a crazy Japanese video where people were putting rubber bands around a watermelon," one said, Gavin Free and Daniel Gruchy decided to give it a try.
“I’m quite thirsty for watermelon" said one bloke, "so we’re going to cut one open using the classic Japanese method."
Except the method is actually Korean and was shown on
Korean TV. Still, we'll excuse their lack of geographical knowledge in the name of science.
Pressure (the symbol:
p) is the ratio of force to the area over which that force is distributed. In this case that's 500 rubber bands placed around the center of a watermelon. It doesn't take a physics genius to figure out that when something is squeezed in the middle over a period of time (20 minutes in this case), something is gonna give.
Parents, you've been warned. Hide this video from the kids.
