San Jose - Tony Robbins, a well known American motivational speaker with many international fans, sponsored a motivational event in California where many people attempting to walk across hot coals were burned.
Fire officials in California say at least 21 people were treated for burns after their participation in “The Firewalk Experience” segment of the show. At least three people went to a hospital and most suffered second- or third-degree burns, according to an AP report.
Robbins was hosting the four-day shindig called "Unleash the Power Within" at the San Jose Convention Center. The injuries occurred after a crowd went to a park where 12 lanes of hot coals were set up on the grass.
Robbins' website promotes "The Firewalk Experience" in which people walk on super-heated coals. Witness Jonathan Correll said he heard "screams of agony."
Fire Capt. Reggie Williams says organizers had an open fire permit and emergency personnel were on standby.
