A massive explosion on board a busload of Israelis, at the airport in Burgas, Bulgaria has left 7 dead and many more injured.
Channel 10 in Israel reports at least 7 people are dead, and another 20 injured with severe burns. There are conflicting reports whether the bus was full of tourists or Israeli athletes, visiting the Black Sea resort area.
The bus was one of three buses being used to shuttle passengers across the Airport terminal when the explosion happened, after a flight from Israel that arrived at 4:45pm local time. Photos from the scene show the bus completely destroyed and in flames.
YNet news quotes witnesses at the scene say a man boarded the bus wearing an explosive vest that he detonated as soon as he got on the bus.
Although there has been no claim of responsibility, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is quoted on the Forward.com website blaming Islamic terrorists for the attack. “Eighteen years exactly after the blast at the Jewish community centre in Argentina, murderous Iranian terror continues to hit innocent people. This is an Iranian terror attack that is spreading throughout the entire world. Israel will react powerfully against Iranian terror.”
The airport has since been closed, and all flights grounded. The airport is surrounded by police and military vehicles.
Witnesses at the scene are in shock saying they have never seen something like this happen in the region.
The Jerusalem Post says Israel's Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman has called for a special cabinet meeting to discuss the situation and YNet News says the foreign ministry has put together a team of experts to help in the investigation.
Burgas is a popular holiday destination for Israelis.
