Marissa Mayer is a longtime executive at Google but she has just taken on another job, the new chief executive officer over at Yahoo. She's also pregnant, due October 7.
Yahoo shocked Wall Street and observers when they named Mayer the new CEO of the company. Over the past five years Yahoo has had four CEOs, Terry Semel, Carol Bartz, Jerry Yang and Scott Thompson.
According to Business Week, Mayer, 37, was one of the first people to work for Google just as it was first rising to prominence. Mayer ran Google's search group for many years and she has also led the local and location division. When it came to spokespeople Mayer was one of Google's best but Mayer has never seemed to get into a good position on Larry Page's senior leadership team.
According to Reuters, Mayer will start her new job on Tuesday. That is also when Yahoo will report its quarterly financial results. Mayer sent out a tweet saying that she was very excited about her new role.
It's also been reported Mayer is pregnant with her first child, a boy due October 7.
According to Washington Post, Yahoo is still a popular destination online. It still gets around 700 million visitors every single month. However the company has struggled to make money and faces stiff competition from Google and Facebook.
Some of Mayer's accomplishments include being a math whiz and having a photographic memory, and she has also led teams that were responsible for creating some of the most popular products that Google has, such as Google's iconic homepage.
Mayer also managed the launch of Google News, and Gmail as well as more than 100 features. Mayer is also credited with the look and feel of Google products.
