Surrogate mother rape-victim wants to marry rapist

A bizarre case is making headlines in India. A woman who was employed as a surrogate mother claims she was raped by the man who paid her to bear the child, after the birth. Now she says she wishes to marry the rapist.

A pregnant surrogate-woman has alleged that the man who paid her to bear a child subsequently raped her. The 30-year-old surrogate filed a rape complaint against Rajkumar Jadav, whose child she gave birth to in October 2011. Following the birth of the child the woman claims that Rajkumar failed to honor the financial side of the contract, even though she had handed the baby over. The woman, who is now pregnant with a second surrogate baby, claimed Rajkumar abducted and raped her. However, in a bizarre twist, the surrogate has now withdrawn the charge of rape and told crime officials in Ahmedabad that she wishes to marry Rajkumar, the Times of India reported. Meanwhile, police investigating the rape discovered that Jadav was not married and the child that was born as a result of the surrogacy has ended up with a childless couple in Mumbai. Police interest has been aroused. A spokesperson for the Mahila police said "the woman had not registered any breach of trust complaint against Rajkumar" for his failure to pay the outstanding sum for the surrogacy. Police are now turning their attention to the doctor who acted as an intermediary for the surrogacy and have asked him "to submit the contract that validates this surrogacy." Police said that even though the surrogate has withdrawn the rape complaint and now states she wishes to marry the alleged rapist there are still factors to be investigated. They said "we have to probe if her first baby was the result of surrogacy, how the baby reached a childless couple in Mumbai and whether the child was sold for money."
