It be the silly season as far as 'American Idol' goes, with 2 of 3 judges, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez leaving, and the status of one, Randy Jackson, up in the air. One thing not up in the air though is Jackson's devotion to his now former co-judges.
"Steven and Jennifer are truly two of the most talented and consummate professionals I've worked with," the 56 year-old Jackson said in a written statement. "I was friends with them before we hopped on this crazy journey together and I have no doubt our friendships will continue long after. I will love them for life." Gossip Cop published the statement.
Ryan Seacrest back, Randy Jackson a maybe
Reports are that Ryan Seacrest will be back to host but whether Jackson will continue he has not said, nor have the producers. Tyler will not be back for Season 12, saying he's leaving to get back to more touring with his iconic rock band Aerosmith. Though ratings have fallen on 'American Idol', there's no word that Tyler was given his walking papers.
There are media reports however, unconfirmed, that Lopez is upset she's not coming back, but that she was the architect of her leave-taking by asking for an additional $2 million on top of the $15 million per that she'd made over her two seasons on the show. When you're making 15 million dollars, one wonders why you'd quibble over 2 million more.
New 'American Idol' panel
A part of the silly season for the show are the rumors now spreading about who might take over the judges chairs for the two, and possibly three, departing. This is similar to two seasons ago, after Ellen DeGeneres, Kara dioGuardi and Simon Cowell all left and rampant rumors of their replacements surfaced, rumors that included Elton John and Britney Spears.
Some of the names rumored to be in the mix for a judges chair include former contestant Adam Lambert, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus and soul-singer Aretha Franklin. 'American Idol' producer Nigel Lythgoe recently joked that he was looking to hire Charlie Sheen and there were a few media sites that took that seriously.
Mind you, given it's the silly season on 'American Idol' speculation, you never know....
