Jennifer Lopez has confirmed she is leaving as judge of American Idol during her appearance Friday on the radio show of host Ryan Seacrest
Lopez' announcement came barely a day after fellow judge Steven Tyler announced his decision to leave as judge of American Idol.
Lopez and Tyler's announcement leaves only Randy Jackson's fate up in the air.
In the statement posted on americanidolnet.com, Lopez said it was time for her go and to get back to what she used to do.
“I really have been torn,” she said. “When I signed on to ‘Idol,’ I signed on to do one year. I ended up doing two years … It was just such a lovely surprise in my life to do it. It gets more complicated as the kids get a little bigger. It started feeling like it was a lot. Something had to give … that’s where I am right now.”
In a report by Reuters, Lopez is on concert tour with Enrique Iglesias this summer. She also has two movies in theaters and another movie to be released next year.
Randy Jackson, who has been with American Idol since 2002, is also reported to be leaving the program as judge after more than 10 years in the show. But the report remains unconfirmed as Jackson's spokesman declined to give any statement.
Continuing decline in viewership in the last season has reportedly triggered the revamp of the composition of judges.
New York Times reported the program lost nearly a quarter of its audience for the first time since 2003
