Akron - A woman stands at a busy intersection in Akron, Ohio, begging passersby for a buck or two. But she's not homeless, or even destitute-- she's trying to save up enough money to pay for breast enlargement surgery.
The New York Daily News reports that 37-year-old Chrissy Lance of Rittman has been 'begging for boobs' at the corner of Manchester Road and Carnegie Avenue in Akron, wearing a skimpy bikini and holding a sign that reads 'NOT HOMELESS, NEED BOOBS.'
Lance says she needs about $5,000 to get the surgery she so desperately wants, but so far she's only raised about 90 bucks.
"I see people panhandling every day, so why not panhandle for boobs," she asked in an interview with a local TV station. "It's original. I've never seen anybody do it," she added.
Lance, who made sure to obtain the required panhandling permit from the city, is a single mom and student who works as a barmaid. While she earns enough to support herself, there's not much left over for her breast enhancement fund, surgery she says will "help improve [her] self esteem."
But some online observers say that the svelte, tanned Lance looks just fine the way she is.
"No, no, no, no. Chrissy, you are an absolutely beautiful woman now. Instead of using that money to ruin a perfect pair of perky breasts, use it to get the f--- out of Ohio. That will probably help your self esteem more," commented one Gawker reader.
Despite the meager earnings she's received from begging, Lance says she'll keep doing it until she reaches her goal.
"Everyone that knows me, knows that I am a wild one," she said.
