article imageOp-Ed: What I've learned from Digital Journal Special

By Scott Ungerecht     Jul 12, 2012 in Internet
Baker City - Freelance journalism is all about observation, interviewing people, gathering factual information and writing a quality news story that captures the interest of your readers. That's what I've learned from Digital Journal.
I've been writing freelance news articles for Digital Journal since June 2011, and I'm very impressed with their professional news editors and staff. Whenever I have a problem, whether it's writing an article, or asking questions about how to conduct a professional interview, Digital Journal is always available to help me.
The news editors at Digital Journal do a fantastic job editing my articles. They make sure my articles are professional and based only on the facts. I could not do my job in Baker City, Oregon without their assistance and I feel very fortunate to work for them.
People in Baker City often ask me why I work for a professional news agency that is located in Canada. They also ask me why Digital Journal is interested about what happens in their small town community.
My response is always the same. I work for Digital Journal because it is the only news agency in the world that will pay me to write freelance articles about Baker City, Oregon. I'm not a professionally trained journalist and I don't have a college degree. Without those two qualifications, it's almost impossible to find a news agency in the United States that will pay me to write freelance articles about where I live. So I'm very thankful I discovered Digital Journal.
Another thing I've learned from Digital Journal is they have thousands of freelance journalists, just like me, writing factual news stories about what's happening in countries all over the world. That makes Digital Journal one of the largest online sources of up-to-date news, which I think is fantastic.
If you work as a freelance journalist, then you'll understand when I say Digital Journal is a true global news media network. It provides the average citizen with an opportunity to write factual news stories about what's happening in their community. It does not matter where that person lives or why he/she is there.
I think the Digital Journal website, and its team of news editors, do an outstanding job showing its online members how to be great journalists. I believe this helps freelance journalists with installing self-confidence and pride in their work. It's on-the-job training at its best!
While I have learned a lot over the past year from Digital Journal, I'm sure I will always learn something new. I honestly enjoy working as an American freelance journalist and I'm very proud to be an active part of the Digital Journal community.
