Want to see some rock hard abs, powerful thighs and well-tanned incredibly sculpted bodies - in bikinis - on women who are over 40, the supposed threshold to middle-age?
This weekend is the NPC Southern States Championships at the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale, according to SunSentinel.com.
In case Ft. Lauderdale away to attend, the attached video gives an idea of what the event is all about. This is the 32nd annual event for the bodybuilders and organizers upgraded the presentation with a few new categories, including the Women's Bikini Over 40 division that stars some chiseled grannies.
Adriana Valero, a 43-year-old native of Bogota, Colombia, who lives in Tamarac, Florida, has a 2-year-old grandson that she adores. She and her husband, Jorge, who run a computer-consulting company, have a 25-year-old daughter, a 19-year-old son at Florida State and a 16-year-old daughter at Taravella High School. Talk about getting back into shape after childbirth, this lady is an expert.
Valero moved to the United States at age 13 and has lived in South Florida for almost 20 years. Though she has always worked out, Valero has only been training for this kind of competition for seven months. The 5-foot-1, 105-pound grandmother credits her trainer, Rich Alvarez, at One to One Fitness in Coral Springs, for coaching her to winning the four trophies she's already has. For a bonus, Alvarez helped her husband lose 60 pounds.
When asked if her husband carries the heavy grocery bags, Valero laughed and said, “What? No, no. I can do it. We do it together.”
On guilt food, Valero said she likes chocolate. “I like chocolate, but let me think. I want to be honest with you. Yes, last week, I got a plate of bandeja paisa, purchased from a Colombian restaurant]. I took it home and ate it during the day, little by little. … I ate everything. I didn't tell anybody. I didn't want to share.”
When asked if her husband has a problem with her posing in a room full of people in a bikini, Valero said he gives her lots of support. “He wants me to win. ... He’s always perfecting me. … At the last competition, he was telling me my bikini was too big.”
