article imageOp-Ed: Merck Caught Again in Vaccine Fraud

By Mindy Allan     Jul 14, 2012 in Health
Dr. Maurice Hilleman was, the leading vaccine pioneer in the history of vaccines. He developed more than three dozen vaccines—more than any other scientist in history—and was the developer of Merck's vaccine program.
Dr. Hilleman was chief of the Department of Respiratory Diseases with what's now the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, he discovered the genetic changes that occur when the influenza virus mutates, known as shift and drift.
He was also one of the early vaccine pioneers to warn about the possibility that simian viruses might contaminate vaccines. So Dr. Hilleman knew what he was talking about. And in his own words, "vaccines have to be considered the bargain basement technology for the 20th Century."
Merck virologists Stephen Krahling and Joan Wlochowski claimed in their unsealed 2010 complaint that they "witnessed firsthand the improper testing and data falsification in which Merck engaged to artificially inflate the vaccine's efficacy findings." After a two year investigation the Justice Department has refused to rule on the case. Merck continues to deny the allegations.
In November of 2011 the Justice Department ordered Merck to pay $950 million to resolve criminal charges and civil claims related to its promotion and marketing of the painkiller Vioxx® (rofecoxib)
On June 5, 2012, Dr. Joseph Mercola and Barbara Loe Fisher from the National Vaccine Information Center talk about the litigation department for Merck and its ability to defend a company that just finished losing a case for creating an illusion that was misleading to the public. Two professionals that continue to report the controversy and safe use of vaccines..
The campaign for safe vaccines continues....
