The video shows him negotiating complex obstacle-filled courses, executing spins and reversals while racing on the empty streets of San Francisco. He drives at terrific speed over an empty Oakland Bay Bridge, in-between moving trams, spinning his car around his friend Travis Pastrana, who wheelies on a dirt bike. He is shown tearing through deserted streets with tyres screeching and smoking in his wake.
An incredible shot shows him literally flying as he accelerates over a hill.
According to ESPN
, the video also features Thrasher magazine's Jake Phelps swinging a checkered flag at the top of Twin Peaks.
The Daily Mail
reports Block is driving a 2012 Ford Fiesta with 650 horsepower. He takes the car from 1-60mph in 1.8 seconds.
The 10-minute film became an instant hit online and has now received almost 4 million views. It was viewed more than 100,000 times in the first 24 hours after it was uploaded to YouTube.
According to the Daily Mail
, the video was shot over four days, with the performance focusing on "fast, raw and precise driving action" and the streets of San Francisco as the driver's playground.
According to Jalopnik
, Block said:
"San Francisco was absolutely amazing for Gymkhana. It's such a unique location for this kind of driving and allowed me to do some things that I never thought I'd ever be able to incorporate into one of my Gymkhana videos-like jumping a table top or doing a jump drift! I'm stoked with how this project turned out and I'm truly a lucky bastard to have been able to do the things I was able to do on the streets of San Francisco. To all of the residents and people who allowed us to make this happen, thank you!"
reports the X Games RallyCross silver medalist was still only an infant when, 44 years ago, Steve McQueen tore through the streets of San Francisco in a high-performance Ford for the big-screen classic "Bullitt." The website comments that Block's "Gymkhana Five" is a reunion of sorts for Ford and "those steep-and-narrow streets."
Block, 44, a member of the Monster World Rally team, is co-founder of extreme sports fashion label DC Shoes.
