San Pedro
-
In a bit of belated Independence Day news, the town of San Pedro, CA held its annual fireworks show at Cabrillo Beach in honor of the 4th of July holiday.
Located just south of Downtown L.A., San Pedro is also home to the Port of Los Angeles, one of the busiest ports in the world.
Earlier in the day, a ceremony was held at the newly docked USS Iowa. Government officials, including the governor of Iowa, were invited to attend. The ceremony also played host to retired veterans. Beginning July 7, the battleship will be open to the public as a permanent museum.
The ship was used during World War II and the Korean War. It was even used to transport President Franklin D. Roosevelt across the Atlantic.
A bell ringing event was held earlier in the day at the Korean Bell of Friendship located in Angels Gate Park. The bell is rung during a few special occasions throughout the year.
The fireworks show began at 9pm at Cabrillo Beach. Barges situated in Los Angeles Harbor shot off a multitude of fireworks in the night sky for spectators to enjoy.
