The owner of the restaurant where President Barack Obama ate breakfast Friday morning died five hours after the President and his entourage left, according to a Reuters report.
Josephine “Ann” Harris, 70, died after meeting Obama reportedly of natural causes. Obama was served eggs, bacon, toast and grits at the Akron Ohio restaurant just hours before Ms. Harris complained of “fatigue and a 'tingling feeling'.”
The President reportedly called the woman’s daughter from Air Force One “to express his condolences.”
White House press secretary Jay Carney said Harris apparently had not been well and was believed to have had a heart attack. The Summit County medical examiner's office said Harris died of natural causes and hospital spokesman Jim Gorsky confirmed she died five hours after Obama's visit.
"The president expressed his sorrow," said Carney from aboard Air Force One. Obama and his campaign group were at the end of a two-day campaign swing through the election battleground states of Ohio and Pennsylvania.
"Very sad event. He was very honored to meet her this morning and passed on his feelings that the whole family is in his thoughts and prayers," Carney said.
Harris met Obama outside her diner where he ordered two eggs, over medium, with bacon and wheat toast along with grits.
Harris hugged Obama and posed with him for photographs, according to local media.
Frankie Adkins of Tulsa, Oklahoma, the victim's sister, said she was certain the president's visit was a highlight for Harris, according to the Akron Beacon Journal newspaper.
