article imageOp-Ed: A challenge from a 9/11 Truth crank

By Alexander Baron     Jul 4, 2012 in Odd News
New York - On American Independence Day, your humble correspondent received a challenge from one of those sorely misguided people known as 9/11 Truthers - or conspiracy cranks for short.
The challenge came in an e-mail headed 9/11, starting at the basics...
and it read simply:
Dear Alexander:
In the wake of the abundant nonsense you have peddled over 9/11, I publicly challenge you to refute the elementary 9/11 baby step.
Daniel Noël
Platonic analyst
[address deleted by editor]
You will find Mr Noël's baby step here, but my first thought was do I really want to respond to a man who uses a split infinitive at 3.19am, then I thought, heck, he isn't on London time.
The first thing I did was run the phrase “platonic analyst” through Google, and as of 10.08 the same morning there were a mere 157 mentions, most or perhaps all of them linked to him. Unlike your humble correspondent, he boasts a PhD, but so does Larry O'Hara, and I wouldn't take anything he says at face value on that account.
Reading Daniel Noël PhD's challenge, it is easy to see it is the most arrant nonsense. You will find my position on Building 7 here. The short linked video is an excellent rebuttal of the major claims.
Having said that, I am quite prepared to make two concessions: one is that NIST did not do as thorough a job as it might have; the other is that there may have been a cover up or cover ups of sorts, indeed there was a demonstrable and rather weak cover up, regarding the motives of the hijackers.
First point first: this crime against humanity is an open and shut case in one sense, because the criminals who carried it out are all dead, and indeed they went to their graves boasting about their foul deeds. Here is the voice of 9/11 ringleader Mohamed Atta shortly after the hijacking.
Unless one believes they were fall guys who were brainwashed, that the planes were controlled from the ground, or similar nonsense, there is no getting away from this. You can drag in Operation Northwoods, the Order of the Illuminati, the Protocols Of Zion if you wish, but at the end of the day, you're still left with the smoking gun, and the men who fired it.
It is quite likely that no amount of research will ever be able to account for every tiny anomaly on that day, because it involved tens of thousands of people, and many of them are dead.
There was, as stated, a very definite cover up, or attempt to cover up the motives of the hijackers, or perhaps one should say their rationalisation, which is the ongoing situation in the Middle East with especial reference to the Zionist occupation of Palestine. The Lobby we all know doesn't really exist tried to expunge all mention of that from the broader inquiry without success.
Finally, there may be other, more trivial cover ups. It is common knowledge that the family of then US President George Bush has close ties with the Saudi Royal Family. It could be embarrassing if the sister of Mohamed Atta once babysat for the niece of the third cousin twice removed of the Saudi King. Or something equally obscure and ultimately meaningless, like this, for example.
The man in the middle is Democratic Party activist John Gacy. Seven months after posing for this photograph with the First Lady of the United States, he confessed to serial murder, and in May 1994, after more than a decade on death row, he was executed by lethal injection. Undoubtedly, this is something Jimmy Carter and his wife, and indeed every right thinking member of the Democratic Party would probably like to forget. Now, suppose this photograph had never been published, and some local Chicago Democrat had managed to get hold of and destroy the only copy, that would have been relevant to the 1980 Presidential race how, exactly?
If Daniel Noël PhD and his ilk want to oppose the ongoing tyranny of the American Government, there are plenty of bandwagons he and they can jump on. Warrantless searches, the TSA groping young children at airports, the war on drugs, Operation Fast And Furious, you name it, Camp Delta, American foreign policy in the Middle East and elsewhere, and of course the Federal Reserve rip off.
These are all real issues, but please don't insult my intelligence or anyone else's with this stupid mantra “9/11 was an inside job”. By doing so you waste precious time, squander valuable resources, and make not only yourselves but all critics of the American and other governments look foolish, because you are, the rest of us by association.
