Roberto Saviano, whose 2006 book "Gomorrah" exposed secret details about the Naples mafia, had an asteroid named in his honor on Friday by the International Astronomical Union.
According to ANSA, the asteroid chosen is also known as asteroid no. 278447. Its current location is situated somewhere between Mars and Jupiter.
The Independent reports that Saviano received death threats upon the publishing of his book, which specifically detailed the criminal activities of the Camorra family. The district of Naples had even granted him an armed bodyguard for protection.
According to UPI, Saviano was thrilled when he learned about the honor. He stated:
"Thank you Dr. Silvano Casulli, who discovered the asteroid, for deciding to name it after me. Now I'll look at the sky through different eyes."
