Leeds - High summer has arrived in the UK, and the long school holiday is here. How about spending it with Peter Burley and friends doing some Imagination Gaming?
Recently, the games inventor Peter Burley released one of his creations on iphone and ipad, but Take It Easy can also be played outdoors, including at Imagination Gaming's Breeze events. Imagination Gaming is based in the North of England, and currently most of its events are held in and around Leeds. Run by Nigel Scarfe and Chris Standley, Imagination Gaming is currently developing its network and, more importantly, spreading the gospel. There are a number of Breeze events in July - details can currently be found here.
A few words from Nigel Scarfe, first:
AB: Who are you?
NS: We are a company that work in schools, libraries and other organisations using traditional games from across the world to engage and enthuse and educate whilst ensuring people have fun. We work alongside schools and cater for children as young as five and range as broad as working in old people’s homes, prisons and youth clubs.
AB: What are you aiming for with Imagination Gaming?
NS: Our goal is to entertain but always to challenge. We get rave reviews from both the children, teachers and heads alike as well as the parents whom we invite along to the school events. We use no electronic or computer games in our work and focus on games in which people have to sit around a table and talk and laugh together.
AB: And what specifically is Breeze?
NS: The Breeze events are a series of events across Leeds during the summer holidays. They are found predominantly in deprived areas and look to engage with disaffected young people. The highlight of the events are several large Breeze events that tend to attract several hundred customers and more and have lots and lots going off. For our part we run a large marquee of game events and attract a large audience who look out for us each year. We run tournaments across the events and encourage people to travel to the other events to beat their scores etc and meet other gamers.
If Leeds is too far to travel or if you prefer to play games in cyberspace, check out their Facebook page.
