A burglar who spent nine hours with his head trapped under a garage door had a novel excuse, claiming he was there to repair the door.
Manuel Fernandes, 54, is sticking to his story that he was just there to fix the door, when he was found with his legs and body protruding from beneath a garage door at the Rent-A-Center in Brockton, Mass, Reuters reported.
When the alleged burglar was discovered by the store manager at 8.45 a.m. he revealed he had been trapped there for nine hours. Instead of rushing to help the trapped man the store manager whipped out his cell phone and recorded his plight.
CBS Boston reported Det. Lt. Paul Bonanca of the Brockton Police Department said “He tried to pry open the garage door with a metal bed post. As a result of trying to squeeze into the business, apparently the door fell onto the suspect’s head, and he was unable to free himself."
After police pulled Fernandes out from underneath the door he complained of a headache. The homeless alleged burglar faces charges of breaking and entering.
