There has been a resolution to the case of the middle-school students who bullied their bus monitor, a 68-year-old Grandma named Karen Klein. The incident was captured on video, which was uploaded to Facebook and then went viral on YouTube,
The four students who were involved in the incident were identified and disciplined by school officials after an investigation. The children will be required to complete 50 hours of community service and will serve a one-year school suspension as well. According to Reuters, the community service will involve working with senior citizens and the students will also be required to undergo behavioral training.
The incident gained worldwide attention after a copy of the video was uploaded to YouTube. That video has received in excess of 7 million views and sparked outrage as well as a tremendous show of support for Karen Klein, the victim of the bullying tirade.
Klein has received gifts from Disney and Southwest Air, who are supplying a vacation for the Grandmother. An online appeal for donations raised better than $650,000 in a show of support for the 68-year-old Klein.
Klein has said that she doesn't believe the students who tormented her are bad children. "Not deep down. But when they get together, things happen," she said to CNN.
