article imageTeen thwarts home invasion, saves siblings

By Gar Swaffar     Jun 23, 2012 in Lifestyle
Phoenix - A Phoenix, Arizona teen was babysitting his three siblings, ages 4, 8 and 10 years old when an intruder broke into the home.
The Phoenix, AZ. 14 year-old was babysitting, when a woman knocked on the door, he didn't recognize her and he didn't open the door for her. Soon after the woman left, the teen heard loud noises at the door, as if someone was trying to get in. The 14 year-old hustled his 4, 8 and 10 year-old siblings upstairs in the home, and retrieved a gun from his parents room.
When the teen returned to the head of the stairway, a man armed with a gun had broken through the door and pointed the weapon at the teen. At that time, the teen did what needed to be done, he shot the intruder (apparently) once.
The intruder is now in critical condition at a local hospital, but will be booked as soon as he is recovered enough.
The parents were notified of the incident and are understandably upset over the issue. No word has been forthcoming on whether the teen had been through any sort of weapons training, but without a doubt, he performed extremely well, in a very difficult circumstance.
James Holmes, a Police Officer in Phoenix, quoted at FoxNews stated: "The police and indeed our community does not ever want to see a situation where a teenager of that age has to take a weapon to protect his family ... but this young man did exactly what he should have done," he said. "I'm not sure he gave full thought about what he had to do. He just acted."
The incident has the police concerned due to the lack of information on why that particular home was targeted. The incident occurred at 4:30 in the afternoon at a home which sits mid-block, with children in the home.
The father was "pretty much out of his mind with distress" according to officers on the scene.
The woman in question in the incident has not been found, although officers have been canvassing the neighborhood for clues and information.
