Justin Bieber and the singer he championed and helped make famous, Carly Rae Jepsen, were the two big winners at the MuchMusic Video Awards (MMVAs) in Toronto Sunday. Both artists performed at the show and took home awards.
Jepsen, whose song 'Call Me Maybe' recently hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, did manage more
awards than Bieber. She got 'Video of the Year', fan-voted 'UR Fave Video of the Year' and 'Most Watched Video of the Year'.
Not a bad haul for Jepsen but Bieber, who has been a big part of helping Jepsen get a bigger following, did okay, too, getting the
MMVA 'International Video of the Year by a Canadian' for his video of his single 'Boyfriend' and the viewer-voted 'UR Fave Artist trophy.' Going back to 2010, Bieber has now won 7 MMVAs.
Bieber and Jepsen perform at 2012 VVMAs
Both artists performed at the
MMVA show and judging by the reaction from the live audience they were the highlights of the show with, you guessed it, Bieber getting a bit more fan adulation than Jepsen, or anyone else. Jepsen did, predictably, 'Call Me Maybe' and later, with Flo Rida, the song 'Wild Ones'. Bieber closed the show with 'All Around the World.'
Others to perform live at the 2012 MMVAs included hosts LMFAO, Marianas Trench, Nelly Furtado, Ed Sheeran and Kelly Clarkson. Katy Perry performed and won two awards.
