San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker was not only at the Soho night club in New York with singer Chris Brown and friends when a brawl broke out with friends of singer Drake, but his eye was hurt in the melee.
The injury puts Parker, from France and back home to begin training for the Olympics with the French basketball team, on the sidelines for at least a week. "I was with my friend Chris Brown and me and my friends took some punches, so I'll be missing the start of the French team because I can't do anything for a week except keep the lens in and then take drops," the Associated Press quoted Parker as saying.
Drake, Chris Brown not part of fight
Details are sketchy but the fight appears extensive and many in the club, called W.i.P., said numerous bottles were thrown. A bodyguard for Brown was hospitalized with a serious cut to his head and ABC News reports both the bodyguard and an unidentified woman are filing criminal complaints, though it's unclear against whom those complaints are being filed.
The Canadian Drake was leaving the club when the battle began and there's no suggestion from either side he participated. Brown also stayed out of the fight, reports say, which some media have said was connected to words exchanged about singer Rihanna, who both Brown and Drake have dated. Brown's publicist insists his client and friends "were victims of a brutal attack" and Parker also points the finger at Drake's table of friends. "They started throwing bottles everywhere," he said.
Police close nightclub W.i.P.
Since the fight, the NYPD closed W.i.P., for code violations. The club is in the basement of, and part of, another club called the Greenhouse and the manager of the Greenhouse was arrested the day following the fight when police said they noted he had two outstanding warrants.
