Yvette Wilson, one of the stars of the 90s UPN sitcom, "Moesha," has lost her battle with cervical cancer at the age of 48, TMZ reports.
Wilson played Andell Wilkerson, Moesha (played by singer/actress Brandy)'s friend for 5 seasons on the show. She played the same role on the show's spin-off, The Parkers.
She also appeared in the films House Party 2, House Party 3, and Friday.
Wilson's death was confirmed by her close friend Jeffrey Pittle in a statement on a website he had set up to raise money for her treatment, MTV News reports.
"It is with a heavy heart that I can verify that Yvette passed away last evening (Thursday) after a lengthy and hard battle," he wrote. "She was a fighter to the end, and her talent, humor, and amazing friendship will be sorely missed. She will live on through her awesome body of work."
According to TMZ, Wilson was in Stage 4 of her cancer when she passed away.
Shar Jackson, who co-starred with Wilson on Moesha, tweeted "F*ck Cancer!!!!! Oh God. My heart is soooo unbelievably broken. I wanna thank all my tweeties for their prayers, but God has chosen to take my sister Yvette home."
Other celebrities have also taken to Twitter to express their condolences, USA Today reports.
"God bless u Yvette Wilson. Tears in my eyes. Keep God laughing," actor Jamie Foxx tweeted.
Singer Lauryn Hill tweeted "R.I.P Yvette Wilson (Andell from the Parkers). She recently lost her battle with cancer. Life is short, so cherish yours."
