Justin Bieber has that hit song called 'Boyfriend' now so it seems somehow apropos he use the name 'Girlfriend'. He is, but he's not using it for a song - the Biebs has a new perfume for girls coming out called 'Girlfriend'.
It will be out sometime next week - no definitive date but around the 18th - and it's the 18-year-old Canadian pop stars second foray into a perfume for females, the first, 'Someday', was a big hit and within three weeks Macy's, the major retailer for both perfumes, was scrambling to keep up with demand.
This time around '
Girlfriend' promises to be as big, and he and his management team are helping it get there with a unique promotion. Fans can send in a video of themselves singing his hit song 'Boyfriend' with a one lyric change: Each time they'd normally sing 'boyfriend' they must instead sing 'girlfriend'. Finalists will be chosen, and those videos will make it on-air on Bieber's 'All Around the World' NBC special on June 21. The very best will be part of a 60-second international TV commercial.
Justin Bieber: professional perfumer
'Someday' was released at this time
last year. Bieber is becoming a pro at this - he takes part in the creation of the scent - and this is actually his third fragrance
; his first, in 2010 was called 'My World'. Unlike 'Someday' and 'Girlfriend,' the perfume 'My World' is a unisex fragrance.
'Girlfriend' will come in a bottle decked out in Bieber's trademark purple, with pink and gold also a part of the color design. Bieber has something else coming out next week - in North America his new album 'Believe' hits the stores on June 19.
