Monday, a woman was lit on fire by her estranged boyfriend when she met him at a 7-Eleven store in Boynton Beach, Florida to pick up her 4-year-old son for whom they shared custody.
The 40-year-old unidentified woman was waiting in her silver Mercedes at the store around 3 a.m. when she was attacked by knife-wielding Roosevelt Mondesir, 52, who doused her, blocked her from entering the store and set her on fire, according to an AP story.
When Roosevelt Mondesir, 52, parked his white Jaguar, the boy was not in it. Mondesir allegedly splashed gasoline on the unidentified woman's car and body, according to a police affidavit. Surveillance video shows the female victim enter the store and struggle to keep the doors closed, but Mondesir overpowers her and the pair briefly disappear outside before the video shows her running through the parking lot in a fireball.
"Get away from me!" she can be heard shouting.
Officers, using a K-9 dog and a helicopter found Mondesir several hours later hiding in bushes not far from the store. Mondesir was charged with attempted first-degree murder and was being treated for burns at Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach before being transferred to jail.
The victim is expected to survive and is being treated at Delray Medical Center.
Police hadn’t said what motivated the man to allegedly commit such a horrid violent act against the mother of his child at press time.
