Baker City - On Saturday, June 9, I attended a special awards ceremony at the 2012 Hells Canyon Motorcycle Rally (HCMR) in Baker City, Oregon.
The HCMR is where motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the United States gather in downtown Baker City, during the first weekend in June, to follow four different long-distance driving tours around Baker County that range from 165 miles to 353 miles.
This year’s HCMR awards ceremony happened under dark, overcast skies and 50-degree temperatures. However, that did not prevent a huge crowd of bikers from attending the event. Unfortunately, the cooler weather prevented the famous Baker Bikini Babes from making a special guest appearance for the motorcycle show. The Baker Bikini Babes are local women in Baker City who wear attractive outfits while walking among the motorcycles that are on display.
During the awards ceremony, I used my Canon Power Shot SX130 IS digital camera to record two 9-minute video clips, which include:
1. Raising money to help young children who have cancer.
2. A raffle drawing for two Colt six-shooter revolvers.
3. Honoring Ms. Oregon USA (who was at the ceremony).
4. Info about the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall arriving in La Grande, Oregon on July 19.
5. Honoring two members of the Patriot Guard Riders with a special achievement award.
The Patriot Guard Riders are honor guards who use Harley Davidson motorcycles to help escort fallen American service members to their final resting place. These men and women do a wonderful service each year for our country. I am also a military veteran, so I was especially proud seeing them at the awards ceremony.
In part one of my video of the awards ceremony, an official representative of the HCMR talks about how they raise money to help young children who have cancer. There is also a young girl named Isabelle who has cancer and is holding one of the Colt six-shooter revolvers for the raffle drawing (the revolvers are not loaded with ammunition). A second HCMR representative talks about the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall, and Ms. Oregon USA has her official picture taken with the Patriot Guard Riders.
In part two of my video, Ms. Oregon USA stands on a platform before a large crowd and talks briefly about her past year. She then presents two of the Patriot Guard Riders with their special achievement awards. Later she holds up a Colt six-shooter revolver during the raffle drawing.
In addition, I also recorded a separate 8-minute video clip of the HCMR bike show that displays hundreds of different motorcycles, including Harley’s, choppers and street racing bikes.
