Brazil lifts alcohol ban for the 2014 World Cup

People who attend the 2014 World Cup in Brazil will be able to buy alcoholic beverages in stadiums, thanks to a ban being lifted.

The president of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, signed a bill that will let people buy alcoholic drinks in stadiums while the World Cup is going on. According to Alaska Dispatch, the amendment is temporary and it will also allow the sale of alcoholic beverages at the 2013 Confederations Cup. On Wednesday the bill was published after members of senate and parliament engaged in a long battle. According to CBS, such sales have been banned throughout Brazil. Budweiser is a major sponsor of the 2014 World Cup and Budweiser made the demand that the ban be lifted. According to Times Of India, even though the bill has been passed, opposition members in parliament said that FIFA will have to talk with various leaders of the federal states in Brazil. The reason for this is because FIFA has to negotiate with the leaders. Brazil hopes to complete a few World Cup related projects by 2014. Some of those projects relate to infrastructure and transport, which Brazil said they would invest 13 billion dollars into.
