The IAB Internet Advertising Revenue Report prepared by "PwC"
the brand under which member firms of PricewaterhouseCoopers International Limited (PwCIL) operate and provide services and published by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) reveals record breaking figures.
Interesting internet advertising revenue information include:
• Display type ads brought in $11.1 billion, 35% of total 2011 internet ad revenue. A rise of 15% from $9.6 billion in 2010.
• The fastest growing category is mobile advertising, up almost 150% from $0.6 billion in 2010 to $1.6 billion 2011.
• Digital video advertising revenue rose 29% to $1.8 billion
• Retailers spend the most on advertising - $7.1 billion – 22% of the total. This figure has risen by 21% since 2010.
In the IAB news release
, Randall Rothenberg, President and CEO of IAB, points out the importance of reaching consumers by taking advantage of the increasingly popular mobile digital market. He remarks that:
With the proliferation of smartphones and tablets, it is likely that the tremendous growth in mobile will continue as these screens become even more crucial to the marketing mix.
David Silverman, Partner, PwC U.S. reiterates Rothenberg’s comments by saying that
mobile advertising is enabling marketers to deliver timely, targeted, relevant, and local advertisements in a manner that was not previously possible.
Regarding digital mobility, according to a report by Kathryn Zickuhr and Aaron Smith
from Pew Research Center, 88% of American adults have a cell phone, 57% have a laptop, 19% own an e-book reader, and 19% have a tablet computer; about six in ten adults (63%) go online wirelessly with one of those devices.
