Chaos broke out on a live Greek TV show Thursday morning when an MP from the far-right Golden Dawn threw a glass of water at an extreme-left SYRIZA MP. A Communist party MP condemned the action and was punched and slapped in the face for her trouble.
The video above depicts a typical political confab on Greek television, with everyone talking over each other and shouting, as viewers are assaulted by verbal confusion. In this instance it was two of the participants in the political debate that were assaulted.
Golden Dawn MP Ilias Kasidiaris threw a glass of water at SYRIZA MP Rena Dourou when she said that Golden Dawn would turn the country back 50 years. Then KKE MP Liana Kanelli (Communist) stood up to defend Douro and was slapped in the face three times by Kasidiaris. The male MPs remained seated as the female Communist MP was attacked, but presenter George Papadakis did try to intervene.
Ta Nea reported state prosecutor Eleni Raikou has requested a warrant for the arrest of Ilias Kasidiaris, something he is all too familiar with. He is already facing charges of assisting "five unidentified attackers that clubbed and stabbed a postgraduate student in order to take his identity card by providing them with the getaway car, that he owned" and of possession of an illegal firearm, Athens News reported. Yesterday his trial was postponed until June 11.
