The latest Playstation 3 development is an interactive book, which can be read as a standard book or hooked up to the console to reveal interactive content. The first title will be a new Harry Potter adventure.
Sony has unveiled a new innovative software for the Playstation 3, according to CNET. It is called the Wonderbook , described as an augmented reality product. The announcement was made at the E3 video games trade show in Los Angeles.
The specially produced books are configured in a way that when users hold them up to a camera connected to the Playstation, the book appear on screen along with with added interactive graphics, which can in turn trigger mini-games.
The technology utilizes the Playstation's Eye digital camera and the Move motion controller.
The Daily Telegraph has good news for Harry Potter fans is that the first Wonderbook will be a new Harry Potter title, co-written by J.K. Rowling. The new book will be called "The Book of Spells", and with it the Move motion controller appears, as might be expected, as a magic wand.
According to J.K. Rowling:
"This is the closest a Muggle can come to a real spellbook. I’ve loved working with Sony’s creative team to bring my spells, and some of the history behind them, to life. This is an extraordinary device that offers a reading experience like no other.”
In addition, Sony Computer Entertainment chief Andrew House, is mentioned in the Bangkok Post as declaring "Welcome to the re-invention of the storybook".
