Paris - New York Knicks forward Amar'e Stoudemire got engaged in Paris Saturday to his longtime girlfriend, and mother of his 3 children, Alexis Welch.
According to Global Grind, the couple was standing outside their penthouse at Le Meurice Hotel Belle Etoile Royal Suite when the All-Star proposed. Alexis excitedly said yes. The ring is said to be 8.5 carats and costs over $1 million.
People.com reports that Amare designed the ring with Los Angeles-based celebrity jeweler Shayan Afshar.
Stoudemire met his bride to be in 2002 when he was a member of the Phoenix Suns, People.com reports.
The two were on and off for a while. While Welch and Stoudemire were on a "break," he dated singer Ciara for several months.
"I have been planning my proposal for a while and overlooking the entire Paris skyline seemed like a perfect place. I am so happy she said 'yes' and now we can continue to build our life together as husband and wife, Stoudemire told People from Paris.
VIBE Magazine reports that Stoudemire also took to Twitter to share his elation with his followers. "Paris, the food & lights were very romantic. When she said yes, it was surreal. I'm still floating. #Engaged. #Blessed."
According to ESPN, the couple has not set a specific date, but they are planning to get married in 2013.
