Los Angeles - Two heroic hikers rushed to the aid of a woman who was attacked by a man who allegedly tried to rape her while she walked her dog. The brave men stopped the attacker and held him down until the police arrived.
The incident happened in broad daylight at about 8:30 a.m, Daily Mail reports. The woman, who has not been identified, was walking her dog on Saturday morning.
CBS Los Angeles reports the incident happened near a busy hiking trail in the Hollywood Hills, along Fuller Avenue, leading to Runyon Canyon. According to Daily Mail, the woman was approaching the hiking trail when the suspect allegedly attacked her. CBS Los Angeles reports witnesses said the attacker grabbed the woman from behind and attempted to pull her pants down.
Hikers heard the woman screaming as the man threw her to the ground. Los Angeles Times reports police Sgt. Sal Ogaz said witnesses reported that the man attempted to assault the woman sexually.
According CBS Los Angeles, Bryce Bonn, a resident, said: “I was just enjoying my morning coffee when I heard screaming.” He ran to his balcony and saw a woman being attacked.
ABC7 reports Bonn, said: "He grabbed her and sort of threw her to the ground and then tried to actually take off her pants. And then people broke it up."
Bonn said, “She was shook up and definitely crying. But she held it together.”
The video clip shows two hikers bringing the man down and holding him down. A witness, Evan Santos, said two men had restrained the attacker by the time he arrived at the scene.
According to CBS Los Angeles, a hiker, Jolene Sanchez, commented on the incident: “It definitely concerns me. You would think with the number of people here, you wouldn’t have to deal with something like that.”
Another hiker Janaye Salle, said: “You don’t really think about that when you come here. You just think about getting a workout.”
Daily Mail reports police arrested the man and took him into custody. Police identified him as Dejan Sabastian. He is being held on a $100,000 bail and faces a felony charge of assault with intent to commit rape.
The heroic hikers have not been identified.
The woman suffered minor injuries but declined medical attention.
