The spate of attacks against migrants in Athens is increasing. Three men were attacked on May 31, leaving them hospitalized.
Ekathimerini reported the attacks took place in the Neos Kosmos neighborhood of Athens on Thursday night. The victims were an Albanian man and two Polish men.
According to Keep Talking Greece men on motorcycles wearing crash helmets stabbed the Albanian man with a sword. Eyewitnesses reported "We heard the groans of the man. He was just being hit, he was still standing on his feet. The blade had penetrated the man form the back to the chest. The poor guy was in a state of shock. He collapsed within minutes.”
Twenty minutes later two Polish migrants were subjected to a knife attack, with the attackers wearing crash helmets.
Digital Journal reported that on May 29 a Pakistani immigrant was attacked by supporters of Golden Dawn on the Athens Metro.
Intolerance towards immigrants is fuelled by high unemployment and an escalating crime wave in which many illegals are involved.
The perceived problem of illegal immigrants is spreading beyond the nation's capital. Following violent anti-immigration riots in Patras last week Infomible reported the Antiviosi squat for migrants in Ioannina was targeted by authorities in an effort to close the squat down and clean the "health bomb" it posed. It was reported that the local TV and press promoted the "neo-Nazi and xenophobic" views of Golden Dawn candidate Christos Pappas prior to the raids.
