Months ago on change.org a petition to find Luka Rocco Magnotta was posted after the man was said to have uploaded several videos of killing live cats. Now he's the suspect in a bizarre Canadian case of severed body parts mailed to political party HQ.
Carol Rehnlund wrote in the 'About' section, "Please sign this petition before he progresses to humans."
Today Magnotta is one of the most sought-after people in Canada after allegedly mailing severed body parts to Ottawa.
A Montreal Police spokesman said during a phone interview this evening that the suspect behind a severed body found in Montreal savagely tore apart the body which was left in a suitcase in a pile of garbage in the Côte-des-Neiges. Agents. The left hand and left foot of the victim, a man known to the suspect, was mailed using Canada Post to Ottawa. The hand was sent to the Liberal Party but was intercepted at the post office while the foot was sent to the Conservative Party of Canada's headquarters.
The police spokesperson said that several other body parts were located at the scene in Montreal and at a home on Decarie Boulevard, also in the Côte-des-Neiges. Other body parts have yet to be located.
The spokesperson said that it is likely that the murder of the suspect's friend took place around Wednesday of last week. The spokesperson said that this is not a political related crime.
The suspect, Luka Rocco Magnotta, had a petition against him on change.org for the killing of several cats that he videotaped called "1 boy 2 kittens". The first known video was uploaded to YouTube in 2010. Since that time several other videos were uploaded. A chilling warning was written on the about section of the petition by Carol Rehnlund for action before the man progressed to humans.
Crisis nurse Anne Marie Batten said that when someone kills animals it is a red flag in the mental health world, citing that several serial killers have been known to have started out with animal killing before progressing onto humans.
"This is textbook," Batten said, "This is typical of anti-social behaviours and psychopathy."
The knowledge that Magnotta was named in the petition earlier this year with no visible criminal follow-up was specially worrisome for Batten. "This type of behavior is so characteristic of future killers. Could action have changed what took place in the past several days?"
Batten is worried that the mental health issue could lead to troubles with those suffering from the illness. "Advocates for mental health warn that most mentally ill people are not violent. Rather they are more afraid of the general public than we could ever be of them. This type of behaviour is much sicker than those who deal with schizophrenia or other related illnesses." Batten added that the public shouldn't be afraid of every mentally ill person.
Luka Rocco Magnotta is also known by the pseudonyms Eric Clinton Newman and Vladimir Romanov. He is white, measuring 1.78 meters, weighs 61 kg, he has blue eyes and black hair. He is wanted in connection to Montreal's 11th homicide of 2012. He is known to have lived in the Toronto area in the past.
Magnotta should not be approached. If you do see him call 9-1-1 immediately.
