article imageLuka Rocco Magnotta named as suspect in Ottawa body parts case

By David Silverberg     May 30, 2012 in Crime
Police have identified a suspect wanted in connection with the discovery of a man’s torso stuffed in a suitcase in Montreal as Luka Rocco Magnotta. The torso is linked to the hand and foot mailed to the Conservative party headquarters in Ottawa.
Magnotta, 29, is being sought by police on a Canada-wide search warrant, National Post reports.
A man by the same name is a notorious gay porn star, featured on a number of websites.
Residents of the Montreal building being searched by police, where Magnotta reportedly lived, said they believe the man worked in the gay porn industry, according to the Montreal Gazette.
"One said the only time Magnotta spoke to him was about five days ago. He asked the man, an actor, how he could get started in 'legitimate' movies."
Magnotta is a suspect in a case baffling police. Yesterday, a severed human foot was mailed to the Ottawa headquarters of the Conservative Party of Canada. Also a severed hand was intercepted by Canada Post, but it's unclear if the body part was on its way to the CPC.
And on Tuesday a janitor investigating a foul odor discovered a severed torso in a suitcase in Montreal. Police believe the torso may be linked to the recent disappearance of an Asian man.
Montreal Police are seeking the public's help in locating Magnotta, who may also go by the names Eric Clinton, Kirk Newman or Vladimir Romanov.
Interestingly, a Digital Journal user named Rocco Magnotta wrote a blog post in 2009 titled How to Completely Disappear and Never Be Found.
