Ottawa - It has been confirmed that a human foot was in a package mailed to the Conservative Party of Canada via Canada Post. The package was dropped off around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The Ottawa Police Major Crimes Section is investigating after a severed foot was sent through the mail to CPC. Officers noted that the package appeared to have blood stains on it when they first arrived at the scene. At that point a call was made to The Hazmat Unit and Emergency Operations Section who discovered a human body part. At first it was thought that the foot was a human heart according to the Ottawa Citizen.
The building was closed down after the fire department's Hazmat team arrived. Investigators and a coroner have also been at the scene.
The 130 Albert Street office in Ottawa also has several other businesses. Occupants were requested to remain in their offices while the police accessed the situation for a portion of the afternoon.
Police are also looking to see if the severed foot is related to a torso found in Montreal found earlier Tuesday morning behind a building. Autopsies will be performed in Ottawa and Montreal on the body parts.
