On May 26, Junior Dos Santos stepped into the octagon with Frank Mir and successfully defended the UFC heavyweight title.
Frank Mir may be a two-time UFC heavyweight champion but he did not leave UFC 146 the champion. Mir ended up losing Saturday night at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
According to ESPN, Dos Santos ended up winning by TKO in the second round. Dos Santos is considered by many as having the best boxing skills in all of UFC history.
According to Fox, Dos Santos gave a post-fight interview. In that interview Dos Santos said that good things happen when you believe in yourself, and that is why he is very positive.
According to the Detroit News, Dos Santos avoided a takedown attempt by Mir in the opening-minute of round one. The heavyweight champion did not face any troubles at all during the eight minute fight.
After the fight Mir said that Dos Santos is fast and that he hit hard. Mir said that there were just too many punches thrown at him and they were all hard shots.
The fighters were kept on their feet thanks to Dos Santos but Dos Santos did end up staggering a little bit in the first round and in the second round. Mir did end up stumbling back a few steps after the champion landed a huge right hand, which was followed by another head shot, which caused referee Herb Dean to stop the fight.
Dos Santos said that he was surprised and said that Mir can really take a punch. Dos Santos said that is hand was actually hurt.
