Blue Springs - Residents of Blue Springs, Missouri, say that in the the past two weeks they have seen lights appearing as light orbs hovering in the night sky. The Missouri UFO Network is investigating, and government agencies say they have not identified the objects.
Residents say the the lights come from hovering orbs that change color. According to a witness, one of the orbs was seen dropping altitude, Open Minds reports. Several witnesses say the lights move in zig-zag motion in the sky and sometimes appear and disappear. MSN reports that an observer said: "It's like vibrating light, red, green and blue."
Open Minds reports that residents of nearby Independence, Missouri have also reported seeing the lights.
Fox 12 reports that Missouri MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) is investigating the strange lights. According to Open Minds, assistant State Director Margie Kay, spoke to several witnesses. Then she set up telescopes to observe the lights herself.
Fox 12 reports Kay said she first thought it was Vega, the brightest star in the constellation Lyra. But when other lights began appearing she changed her mind. She said: “I don’t think it’s a planet at this point. I don’t know what it is. It’s unidentified.”
The Huffington Post reports that Becky Neely, a resident, said: "It was like nothing I've ever seen before, but with binoculars we could see it fairly well, and it was off in the distance."
Another observer, said: "It was up in the sky and then it just dropped and stayed stationary in that lower position."
The Huffington Post reports that Jeremy Dickstein, spokesperson for the Blue Springs Police Department, said no one called to report the sightings but the police are aware of the news coverage. Dickstein said: "It's pretty hard to investigate UFOs on a local level."
A spokesman of NORAD said they were aware of the lights, but the objects have not been identified.
