A zebra, a parrot and their owner are in the dog house for trying to get into the Dog House? Jerald Reiter had his pets with him when he was arrested for drunk driving outside the Dog House Lounge in Dubuque, Iowa.
You see this fella, with a parrot and a zebra, walked into a bar ...
Except it's no joke.
Jerald Reiter, (55) of Cascade tried to do exactly that but the bartender asked them to leave. Instead of going home however, Reiter put the parrot and the zebra in his truck and went back in for a few bevvies. Well, it was more than a few, seeing as he was nabbed in the parking lot by police as he was about to leave.
According to the Telegraph Herald, an affidavit from Dubuque Police Officer Chad Leitzen, said that when the officer:
Arrived at the Dog House, 1646 Asbury Road, at about 8 p.m. Sunday, he saw a truck backing up in the parking lot and observed two male subjects in the front of the vehicle, a zebra in the back seat and a parrot sitting on the driver's shoulder.
And it's all true writes the The Gazette, who said Reiter's blood-alcohol level was .14 (legal is .08) and charged him with OWI (Operating While Intoxicated).
According to Reiter's girlfriend, Vickey Teter, having exotic animals in a car might seem a bit strange for some folk, but the animals often go for rides in their car she said. They even accompany their owners whenever they go to fetch the mail she told the AP in an interview:
Of course the zebra and the parrot are not the first strange animals to have entered a bar. Barrie Hayman and his pet duck Star, often head down to the local pub together. The difference is of course, they waddle home under their own steam.
