On Sunday, Harbor Patrol officers discovered about eight thousand pounds of pot floating off of the Coast of California.
The marijuana was discovered floating off of Orange County's coast.
According to MSNBC, the pot was found, in about 160 bales which authorities estimate to be worth $3.6 million, just south of Los Angeles.
According to Huffington Post, the discovery was made around noon time. Authorities then spent the entire evening hauling pot onto their boats and then going to Dana Point Harbor to unload it.
Jerry Conlin, a spokesperson for the United States Border Patrol, said that the finding was not normal. This is because authorities did not spot any boats nor any high-speed chases near the bales.
Conlin said that it is not normal to find that much pot just floating about in the water. He added that the investigation is ongoing and that no arrests have been made, and authorities have not seized any vessels.
Authorities said that they were tipped off to the floating bales of pot, according to CNN.
Michael Jimenez, another border patrol spokesman, said that in the past people have dumped bales of pot when they are being chased. Jimenez went onto say that usually border patrol is aware when that happens.
