San Jose - Bay Area comic fans may have missed out on WonderCon but Big Wow! ComicFest should have made up for it during the May 19 - 20th weekend at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center.
From 10am - 6pm; comic fans all across the Bay Area gathered for a weekend to check out the latest comics while having the chance to meet comic writers and artists. Besides comic writers, local business setup booths to sell comic and fan memorabilia.
Besides comics, there was other forms of nerd entertainment available for all. The Bay Area Ghostbusters had a booth setup while Darth Vader and members of the 501st Legion paraded around the convention center.
The event featured a variety of guests that are icons in comic book culture. They included Steve Niles (writer of 30 Days of Nights), Bernie Wrightson, Toshio Maeda, and Thomas Jane (famous for his role in The Punisher).
The guest appeared at panels and programs in which they took the opportunity to engage with the audience in activities while sharing their memorable experiences.
Other events included board game demos, lessons on how to play Magic the Gathering or building a character in Dungeons & Dragons along with a free screening of Repo: The Generic Opera hosted by Terrance Zdunich.
Big Wow! ComicFest will be followed by FanimeCon 2012 on Memorial Day weekend also at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. FanimeCon is Northern California’s largest anime convention set up by fans as an annual celebration of Japanese art and popular culture.
