Will Smith, on a press tour for "Men in Black 3" in Moscow, was startled when a reporter walked up to him, hugged him and tried to give him a kiss on the mouth.
San Francisco Chronicle reports Will Smith lost his cool when he was caught off guard by a Ukrainian journalist who suddenly grabbed him and tried to kiss him.
AP reports, however, that it was not clear that the man was actually trying to kiss Smith on the mouth. He could have been aiming for his cheek but landed the kiss on his mouth when Smith tried to avoid him.
The video shows Will Smith taken aback. He says, "Hey man, what the hell is your problem, buddy?" He pushes the man away and as he moves down the red carpet deals him a slight backhanded slap to the side of the face. San Francisco Chronicle reports he protested in an apology to his next interviewer, “Hey sorry, he tried to kiss me on the mouth. Joker. He’s lucky I didn’t sucker punch him!” He added, "Oh, I said that on camera. It's all good."
TMZ reveals that the man in the incident is a reporter from a Ukrainian TV channel known for hugging and kissing celebrities. AP identifies the man as Vitalii Sediuk. According to AP, he made headlines at the Venice Film Festival in September when he presented a bouquet of hydrangeas to Madonna and called her "my princess." Madonna did not appear to appreciate the compliment. According to AP, she rebuffed Sediuk, saying, "I absolutely loathe hydrangeas." She threw the flowers under a table before her press conference began.
AP reports Madonna later made a short video titled "Madonna's love letter to hydrangeas" in which she makes a sarcastic apology and concludes with a subtitle that read "I'm left with the feeling that I still hate hydrangeas."
The Huffington Post reports that the incident comes after rumors that Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith are talking divorce. But the couple have denied the rumors.
